Paint figures are two coats at the default 350 sq ft/gallon spread rate, from the same solvePaintCoverage() the paint calculator uses, converted to liters at 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L. Wallpaper rolls use a standard 20.5in × 33ft roll via solveWallpaperRolls(). Panel counts use a 10% waste allowance via solvePanelTileCount() on a standard 48×96in sheet. Every number updates automatically if those calculators’ underlying math ever changes, because this table calls the same functions rather than duplicating their output.
Reading the wallpaper columns
Look across any single row and the roll count rarely climbs smoothly from left to right. A roll yields a fixed, whole number of strips — the roll’s length divided by the strip length (wall height plus pattern repeat), rounded down — so the count only moves when a bigger repeat pushes the strip length past the point where the roll yields one fewer strip. Between two adjacent repeat lengths in the table, that can mean no change at all, or a jump of several rolls, depending on exactly where that wall’s own height puts the threshold. Why does the wallpaper roll count sometimes jump between two repeat lengths and not others?
A roll yields a fixed number of strips, found by dividing the roll's length by the strip length (wall height plus pattern repeat). That's a whole-number division, so the roll count only changes when a bigger repeat pushes the strip length past the point where one fewer strip fits per roll — a step, not a smooth increase. The exact repeat length where that happens depends on the wall's own height, which is why the jump lands in a different place for each wall size in the table.
Why does this table use a 48 x 96in panel for every wall?
It's a common 4x8 sheet size, used here as one fixed reference so every wall's panel count in this table is directly comparable to the others. The Panel & Tile Count Calculator itself accepts any panel width and height — shiplap boards, beadboard sheets, or square wainscoting tiles — so use the calculator directly with your actual product's dimensions for a project-specific count.
Does the paint figure include primer, or account for a color change?
No — it's a two-coat topcoat estimate at the default 350 sq ft/gallon spread rate, the same default the Paint Coverage Calculator starts from. Why do doors and windows get subtracted for paint but not for wallpaper?
Paint is rolled onto the exact area you brush it on, so removing a door or window's area gives a more accurate gallon count. Wallpaper is hung in continuous strips across the whole wall and trimmed around openings afterward, since seams — not the small offcut around a window — are the visible weak point in a wallpaper job. Both behaviors match how the two calculators actually work.
